Mashiko ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally made in Mashiko, Tochigi. Early pottery in Mashiko dates back to the Jomon and Yayoi periods. Mashiko yaki is often thought of as simple and rustic in style.

Mashiko is a folkware kiln site that is unlike some of the other older kiln sites around Japan. In 1979, Mashiko yaki was designated as a National Traditional Craft.

Dorei is an earthen bell, charm against evil spirits, talisman, amulet. Clay bells started of as toys for children, but since the Meiji period they came to be a well-loved souvenir for travelling families.

The history of clay bells dates back to the Jomon period (B.C. 7000 - 300); their quiet tinkling and plain shape have attracted the hearts of the Japanese people.

It has a hard ceramic ball inside that clatters when shaken or moved around. Their different types vary from area to area, from maker to maker, and certainly from different tastes within the changing periods of Japanese history.
