KASUMI means haze or mist, which represents the particular landscape atmosphere we see in the evening or morning.
During the Edo Period, silkworm production was a common second job for farmers around Japan, particularly in Nagano. They raised silkworms in attics of their homes and sold cocoons to factories in big cities such as Kyoto and Nagoya.
